Task 2: Create & Monitor Improvement Dashboard
Guideline: Improving a school's learning climate is a complex task of interrelated activities requiring staff member attention, time, and resources. The principal may want to designate the school safety team to fulfill this task. A useful monitoring tool is an "Improvement Dashboard" as a way to keep track of the school's performance in relation to its learning goals. Monitoring and acting on the data tracked through the dashboard is essential for the tool to be effective. It is the principal's role to monitor the data and act on it. The resources offered provide guidance on doing so.
The Balanced Scorecard is a useful tool to monitor implementation of the school improvement plan. Developed for business enterprises in the early 90s, the concept can be adapted for schools. Principals will find the concept helpful in overseeing many activities when limited time to do so. The document includes a suggested balanced scorecard planning template.
