The Classroom Assessment KnowledgeBase is an online resource for state departments of education to use as part of their professional development efforts with districts and schools. Organized around five elements, it brings together concepts, how-to guidance, tools, and resources about classroom assessment.

Task 3: Assure Assessment Quality

Guideline: Classroom assessments should meet the following quality criteria. They should:

  • reflect state and local curriculum standards,
  • provide students an opportunity to learn,
  • be free of bias and insensitive situations,
  • be prepared for the appropriate level,
  • be reliably scored, and
  • establish appropriate mastery levels.
