The Migrant Education KnowledgeBase supports educators associated with migrant education programs. It offers information about migrant education programs, regulations, and resources to help educators support the academic success of migrant students.


Task 5: Migrant Health and Nutrition

Guideline: As noted by the Department of Health and Human Services, "The Migrant Health Center (MHC) program provides a broad array of medical and support services to migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families." Educators working with migrant families should be aware of the health services and nutrition programs available to them.

This link is to the National Center for Farmworker Health, Inc., a private, not-for-profit corporation located in Buda, Texas. As noted at its website, its mission is "to improve the health status of farm worker families through appropriate application of human, technical, and information resources. It is dedicated to improving the health status of farm worker families by providing information services and products to a network of more than 500 migrant health center service sites in the United States as well as other organizations and individuals serving the farm worker population."


National Rural Health Association (NRHA)

As noted at its website, "the NRHA is a national nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to provide leadership on rural health issues. The NRHA membership is made up of a diverse collection of individuals and organizations, all of whom share the common bond of an interest in rural health."
