The Adolescent Literacy KnowledgeBase

This KnowledgeBase archive includes content and external links that were accurate and relevant as of September 30, 2019.

The Writing Successful Grants KnowledgeBase is an online resource aiding education professionals in their pursuit of public and private grants to support local programs. Its five elements contain information and resources that assist the grant seeker with developing their project, writing the grant proposal and managing the grant upon its award.

Task 4: Be Aware of National Research and Policy Groups

Guideline: National research and policy groups devoted to language arts and reading are information sources and advocates for adolescent literacy. Local educators should possess an awareness of these organizations.

According to the website, IRA "supports literacy professionals through a wide range of resources, advocacy efforts, volunteerism, and professional development activities."

 

Literacy Information and Communication System

This link is to the Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS). As noted at its website, "the Literacy Information and Communication System, commonly referred to as LINCS, is a national dissemination, resource gathering, and professional development system providing information on a wide variety of literacy relevant topics, issues, and resources."

 

National Council of Teachers of English

This link is to the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) website. The NCTE website offers resources on adolescent literacy at the middle and secondary school levels.

Time to Act

This link is to the Carnegie Corporation of New York's report proposes an agenda for advancing adolescent literacy for college and career success. The report also emphasizes the need to build statewide data systems to inform literacy instruction and include adolescent-literacy training in state professional development and teacher certification programs.
