The Early Language and Literacy KnowledgeBase is an online resource supporting language and literacy development in early learners from birth through age eight. Its focus is to support parents and caregivers in helping early learners with their language and literacy development, and teachers in enhancing their instruction for early learners from pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3.
Task 1: Addressing the Learning Needs of the Whole Child
Guideline: Parents and pre-K/pre-school educators provide the learning environment for early learners, three to five years. As such, they need to provide emotional support; keep their daily activities organized; and be aware of the cues the early learners exhibit through gestures, sounds, words, facial expressions, and their visual attention. Parents and pre-K/pre-school educators who do so provide support for the child's social, emotional, physical, and language and literacy development. This task provides resources to assist parents and pre-K/pre-school educators in addressing the learning needs of the whole child.
