The Early Language and Literacy KnowledgeBase is an online resource supporting language and literacy development in early learners from birth through age eight. Its focus is to support parents and caregivers in helping early learners with their language and literacy development, and teachers in enhancing their instruction for early learners from pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3.

Task 1: National Early Childhood Standards

Guideline: Educators of early learners should be aware of national learning and environment standards used as a models for state-level guidelines. This task provides information on applicable standards.

Environment Rating Scales

This link to the University of North Carolina's FPG Child Development Institute website provides information about its environment rating scales. As noted at its website they have developed four scales addressing the early childhood, infant/toddler, family child care, and school-age care environments. Educators of early learners may find these scales useful with assessing their program's environment.
