Research shows that top-performing teachers can make a dramatic difference in the achievement of their students and suggests that the impact of being assigned to top-performing teachers year after year is enough to significantly narrow achievement gaps. To promote the goal of having an excellent teacher in every classroom and an excellent principal in every school, we must make equitable access to excellent educators a priority by:

  • encouraging strong support systems for teachers and principals,
  • providing assistance to strengthen the education profession,
  • promoting equitable access to excellent teachers and principals through innovative staffing and leadership opportunities, and
  • supporting the application and discussion of meaningful equity data on which to base workforce decisions.
