KGOU Practicum Students

KGOU Radio has announced its lineup of students who will be learning at the station this semester. Three Gaylord College journalism students – Julia Roberts, Spencer Plato, and Peyton Ferguson – are enrolled in KGOU’s Practicum class. Practicum provides individual instruction to OU students in a real-world environment at the top-rated NPR station in the Oklahoma City radio market. KGOU staff members teach Practicum students about news reporting, announcing, audio editing, operations, promotions, public relations, and the methods used by professionals in public service media.
Each semester, KGOU also employs OU students in part-time paid positions where they learn program hosting, reporting, audio production, and digital and broadcast content development. Currently, KGOU employs three students in these positions – Katie Hallum, Michael Buchanan, and Coyt Wisdom. They learn the craft behind the scenes and announce on-air.
Our goal is to give OU students broadcast journalism experience and expand their skillsets to enable them to have productive careers after their college days are over.
KGOU Radio is licensed to the University of Oklahoma and is a listener-supported service of the University of Oklahoma Outreach/College of Continuing Education. From its main studio on the OU campus in Norman, KGOU reaches almost two million Oklahomans through its broadcast signal and digital streaming at www.kgou.org.
