KGOU and Oklahoma Watch completed a joint project to visit four Oklahoma communities during Spring 2024 to discuss trust in journalism and to hear community concerns. The project was supported by the Oklahoma Media Center’s Ecosystem Engagement Fund, in association with the Local Media Association, Trusting News, and the Inasmuch Foundation. KGOU general manager Dick Pryor and Oklahoma Watch executive director Ted Streuli conducted the discussion sessions, entitled “Trust Me – I’m a Journalist” in Chickasha, Woodward, Durant, and Ponca City.

Greetings to all from the Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies! As we dive into the vibrant summer months of 2024, we are thrilled to reflect on the resounding success of NCORE 2024, held in Honolulu from May 28th to June 1st. This year's conference marked a significant milestone with the highest-ever registration of 5,467 attendees, representing nearly 1,200 institutions from across the United States. The decision to host NCORE in Honolulu provided a unique backdrop to explore pressing issues at the intersection of climate change and justice, native Hawaiian rights and sovereignty, and the challenges faced by place-based communities.

Dr. Biscoe was an invited speaker for the 23rd InfoPoverty World Conference, held on April 12, 2024, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, focused on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on society, especially in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and various global conflicts. The conference addressed the theme "AI turmoil’s digital processes: How to act to ensure human rights and provide e-welfare for all?"

The University of Oklahoma Outreach has been awarded an almost $80 million contract by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to provide top-notch training services to its employees. According to OU President Jospeh Harroz, Jr., “This significant achievement is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team, and it highlights our unwavering commitment to workforce development and lifelong learning.” This contract bid was led and developed by Dr. Biscoe.

KGOU Radio has announced its lineup of students who will be learning at the station this semester. Three Gaylord College journalism students – Julia Roberts, Spencer Plato, and Peyton Ferguson – are enrolled in KGOU’s Practicum class. Practicum provides individual instruction to OU students in a real-world environment at the top-rated NPR station in the Oklahoma City radio market. KGOU staff members teach Practicum students about news reporting, announcing, audio editing, operations, promotions, public relations, and the methods used by professionals in public service media.

During its May meeting, the Oklahoma State Board of Education approved CECPD’s Early Learning Quick Assessment (ELQA) for statewide use as a kindergarten literacy readiness screening instrument. School districts may now use Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA) funds to purchase the ELQA.
