Celebrating 15 Years of Advancing Youth Work in Oklahoma

Published: Friday, July 25, 2025

The 15th Annual Professionalizing Youth Work in Oklahoma Conference (PYW) marked a major milestone in the state’s commitment to elevating the field of youth services. Hostedby the Oklahoma Human Services Child Welfare Services Special Placements and Partnerships Unit (SPPU), in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma OUTREACH National Resource Center for Youth Services (NRCYS) Trauma-Informed Care Project, and in partnership with key state agencies and youth-serving organizations, this year’s event was a powerful celebration of progress, passion, and purpose.

Since its inception, the PYW Conference has aimed to raise awareness about the vital role of youth workers and the importance of professionalizing youth work across Oklahoma.  This year’s gathering was no exception—it brought together 197 dedicated professionals from congregate care providers, shelters, and community-based programs across the state.

Held on the OU-Tulsa campus, the in-person event featured nationally recognized leaders, local changemakers, and passionate youth advocates. Through dynamic keynotes and hands-on workshops, attendees explored innovative strategies and gained practical tools to better support and empower young people. Whether new to the field or a seasoned expert, every participant found opportunities to connect, learn, and grow.

One first-time attendee shared, “The event was an incredible experience, and I truly appreciate all the hard work that went into making it such a valuable and enriching opportunity for all attendees.” Featured speaker and author Dr. Gregory Williams echoed the sentiment, saying, “Words can’t convey my appreciation for allowing me to be a part of the conference today. It was conducted in an unbelievable fashion, and I really enjoyed getting to meet so many fantastic people.”

As the conference concluded, participants left reenergized and inspired—ready to bring new insights to their work and already looking forward to next year’s event.
