Oklahoma Arts Council honors Jim Johnson with Media in the Arts Award

Published: Thursday, February 26, 2026

The Oklahoma Arts Council named KGOU’s Jim Johnson as one of 21 honorees of the 46th Oklahoma Governor’s Arts Awards. According to the Council, “the Media in the Arts Award recognizes members of the media who demonstrate commitment to the arts in Oklahoma documented through public awareness support and fairness, initiative, creativity, and professionalism in reporting.”

2025 marked 30 years of Jim’s tenure as host of The Weekend Blues, proving that it’s an institution of the Oklahoma airwaves. In addition to spinning rootsy soul and blues tracks, he uses his platform to educate and entertain listeners for over eight hours a week—adding up to nearly 12,500 hours of carefully curated musical journeys. He’s dedicated to the local blues scene and uplifting Oklahoma artists, proven not only by his commitment to The Weekend Blues but also by his 20 years of service as program chair for annual concert showcase Jazz in June. KGOU is lucky to have Jim as host and program director and extends a hearty congratulations for this recognition!
