From Civil Discourse to the Science of Hope, SWCHRS Drives Professional Development Forward
The Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies (SWCHRS) continues to advance its work connecting higher education, research, and practice through applied learning and dialogue. This spring reflected strong momentum across the Center’s programs, with a focus on equipping professionals with tools to navigate complex institutional and social challenges.
SWCHRS recently concluded the Hope Science in Higher Education Summit, which brought participants together to explore how the science of hope can be applied to support student success, resilience, and campus climate. The Center also completed Cohort 2 of Managing Civil Discourse, a multi-session training designed to strengthen participants’ ability to lead and engage in difficult conversations across higher education contexts. These initiatives emphasized practical frameworks, reflection, and skill-building that participants can carry directly into their roles.
Looking ahead, SWCHRS is building on this momentum with several summer initiatives. Cohort 3 of Managing Civil Discourse will launch, continuing the Social Work CEU Webinar Series, expanding opportunities for professional development, and continuing education. The Center also continues to grow its Social Work CEU Hub, adding new content and resources to support practitioners seeking flexible, high-quality learning. Together, these efforts reflect SWCHRS’s ongoing commitment to access and opportunity through innovative, practice-focused programming.
